End-of-Life Care for Companion Pets

Our caring veterinarians and staff at Chisholm Trail Veterinary Clinic know how hard it is to lose a beloved companion. When your dog or cat reaches the end of their life, we do everything possible to make their last days as comfortable and pain-free as possible.

If your pet is at the end of their life, we’re here to provide counsel and support. Our compassionate veterinarians will speak with you about what to expect during your animal’s last days based upon your pet’s individual condition. As well, we provide the most up-to-date pain medication to relieve any discomfort your pet might have.

If needed, we also offer compassionate euthanasia. When the time comes to perform the euthanasia procedure, you’re welcome to stay with and even hold your pet. To provide support for you and your pet, we offer end-of-life pet care onsite at Chisholm Trail Veterinary Clinic of Lockhart or at your home.

Honoring Your Pet

Pets enrich our lives, and their memories stay with us forever. After the euthanasia process is complete, we help clients decide how they’d like to commemorate their pet’s life. Options include:

Home burial. Some clients prefer to do their own burial at home, and we are happy to accommodate this desire. If this is the option you choose, please check with your local county’s regulations to ensure compliance.

Private cremation. We can help facilitate a private cremation, where you’ll receive your pet’s ashes in a beautiful urn that can be displayed or scattered.

Group cremation. This option involves a group cremation of pets' remains, and the ashes are not returned.

There are additional ways to honor your pet, including paw prints, jewelry, and more. If the time comes, our team will guide you through the decisions to help you find the right choice. Our understanding staff is here to help you make the best decision for your pet at (512) 620-0111.
